My wife and I drove by your museum over the weekend...how wonderful for the community that you have done this.  Good Luck!

From: Robin Kurss, David Laurence Publications, December 2005

Thank you so much for seeing me on Friday.  It was a pleasure to meet you and to see all of the fabulous things that you are doing! It is amazing what a woman with a vision and a passion can accomplish! Continued success in all of your endeavors!

From: Delphine Blachowicz Herbert - Ocala, Florida, July 1, 2005

In shifting through papers I brought from the old house, I found a 1961 Fire Prevention Manual which includes my brother, Albert Richard Blachowicz's photo on page 44, along with others who were members of the Paid Firemen's Association at that time.  Also enclosed is a page from the May 29, 1961, Tonawanda News in which my brother's photo appears.

While at the museum, I was very pleased to learn that Albert had the highest score on the fire department's employment examination according to the gentleman who apparently is a member of your board.  Albert left the department in order to pursue various entrepreneurial endeavors, the most successful of which was publication of a book called "Vital Survival Information."

I am grateful that you and others are building a worthy testament to the history of a wonderful town.  My father, especially, was very well known and respected throughout the community.  Thank you for your generosity in helping to perpetuate the memory of my parents and of my brother.

I look forward to seeing the progress of your efforts when next I return.  Meanwhile, please accept this modest financial contribution.

From: Felix and Cindy Alejandro and family - Tonawanda, NY, June 22, 2005
To the kind people at the North Tonawanda History Museum!  Thank you so much for your donation to our Auction.  We raised $6,000 for the Philip J Alejandro Music Scholarship.  This really means a lot to our family.  So thank you for your support and kindness.

From: Cindi Fredericks - Hutchinson, Kansas, May 19, 2005
Even though I will no longer reside in North Tonawanda, it will always be my home.  I look forward to continued involvement with the museum both in assisting with the new cookbook, typing and updating policies and remaining a long-distance board member for as long as needed.  It has and will continue to be my pleasure to help this wonderful museum in any way I can.  I can't wait to return to visit the new museum location!

From: Linda Norris - Director, Upstate History Alliance, Oneonta, NY, May 1, 2005
On behalf of the Upstate History Alliance, I thank you for your contribution to our Silent Auction.  Your generosity helped us raise $2,200 in support of our organization's activities.  Proceeds from the auction benefit the Upstate History Alliance in its work to build the capacity of organizations to use history to engage the public in shaping their communities.

Your organization will also be recognized in the next UHA newsletter which is mailed to museums throughout the state and all of our auction donors will be listed on the UHA website.

We greatly appreciate your donation and the generous bids of our conference audience.

From: Inessa Bogatyryova - Angarsk, Irkuskaya Region, Russia, April 30, 2005
"Thank you very much for your letter.  I am glad that your work in the Museum is praised and that at last you are open for visitors.  It's a pity I can't visit it.  I show the newspaper articles to our teachers and pupils and they are all surprised at your voluntary work without any payment."
(Note:  Mrs. Bogatyryova is a teacher of English in the Siberian city of Angarsk.)

Hi Donna; I like the new website and the changes that were made.  I sometimes have some trouble navigating with the windows and seeing everything, but that will take time to get used to it.  I'm sure that this whole project just like the museum will be growing and changing as time goes on.  There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm and energy around the museum activities.  I'm very happy to see the involvement with so many volunteers and the community.  I wish that I was closer so I could help out with some of the activities and to see some of the exhibits that you've collected so far.  Thank you so much for your personal efforts to preserve such important history.  I'm always looking at the site and I especially like the updates at the top of the site.  This allows me to view the newest additions that I may have missed by just navigating on my own. I've often thought that it would be great if there were more articles and photos from the Tonawanda News that were available for viewing.  But I'm sure that many of those historic records and stories are gone forever.  I did look at the ones that are already out there, and was happy to read them.

From: a Buffalo News article by George Zornick, Sunday, January 25, 2004:
"Common Council president Brett Sommer, who is familiar with North Tonawanda's history since his great-grandfather served as one of the city's first council presidents said he believes the museum will offer a chance for younger residents to learn about their city's heritage.  "My daughter just read a book on the Erie Canal.  She's so excited she lives in a place that's part of American history, but there's no place she can go to see that history now," Sommer said."

From: Kurt Alverson, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas, Dec. 12, 2003:

"This letter is in regards to the North Tonawanda History Museum.....The Tonawandas Chamber of Commerce endorses this project, and we look forward to the opening of the Museum in the near future.
The Chamber of Commerce is in support of those involved with this daunting task.  A large number of people have volunteered their time, energy, and efforts in order to maintain this very worthwhile cause.  The Chamber feels that this will be a tremendous benefit to the community."

From: Senator George D. Maziarz, Dec 11 2003:
"It is my great pleasure to submit this letter of support on behalf of the North Tonawanda History Museum....As the community's representative in the State Senate, and as Chairman of the Senate Tourism, Recreation, and Sports Development Committee, I know that this is a worthy and deserving community project.
From its beginnings as an Erie Canal boomtown to its heyday as the " Lumber City," the unique history of North Tonawanda will be well served with the advent of a museum displaying its past to the public.  The museum can be a focal point for preserving the historic legacy of this community and as a venue for promoting its heritage to city residents and incoming tourists."

From: Daniel R. Killian, Library Director, North Tonawanda Public Library, Dec. 9, 2003
"The North Tonawanda Public Library has provided substantial Library service support to Ms. Donna Neal and the North Tonawanda History Museum...There is no doubt that history and tourism go together and this proposed facility would add to the constellation of activities available to visitors and Western New York residents and make a fine addition to the already present Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, Carnegie Cultural Center, Gateway Harbor on the Erie Canal, Riviera Theatre."

From: Jean Regulski, Corps Commissioned Sect. - Serving the Tonawandas and Grand Island, December 8, 2003
Thank you for the donation of food.  It sure did come in very handy.  We have a group of children practicing for the Christmas play and a group of teens practicing for the Bible Bowl competition and they have been eating lunch each Sunday after our Holiness meeting, and believe me, they can eat.  Sunday they had a feast and really enjoyed it.

Once again, thank you, and God bless you.  Please share this letter with your group and with the Rasch's, Peter and Beverly. A special thank you for thinking of us.

Have great holidays and God bless all of you.

From:  John H. George, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, North Tonawanda City School District, December 3, 2003;
"As Superintendent of the North  Tonawanda City School District, I am very interested in enhancements to our educational program, particularly those available through local resources.
North Tonawanda has a particularly rich history our students benefit from studying.  Our City was the birthplace for the Wurlitzer Organ and the Herschell Carrousel in addition to being the Western Gateway to the Erie Canal, and at one time, the Nation's largest lumber port.  The Carnegie Art Center, Carrousel Factory Museum, and Riviera Theatre are listed in the Registry of State and National Historical Landmarks.
An effort is now underway to establish a North Tonawanda History Museum as a proper venue for displaying local artifacts, documents, and other items of historical significance.
The potential for the history museum as an educational resource for students of all ages in the North Tonawanda City Schools is outstanding and the District supports this initiative with enthusiasm."

Comments: I am happy that a museum is being formed to house artifacts of NT. I grew up on Master Street and left in 1971. My husband and I both graduated from NTHS ('67 &'68) and have been Colorado residents since 1977. We get back now and then to see family. When we do, there are a few places we HAVE to go to: Swistons, Panes, "the Plaza",and see Niagara Falls. Somehow, NT never changes.
Best wishes to you - hopefully when we hit town again, we will come by and see how you are doing.

Comments: I grew up at 283-285 Payne Ave ( 1949 -60"s). There were 9 kids in a neighborhood of older Germans and Irish neighbors. We were a handfull.... Theres' an alley behind us that ran between Schenck and Thompson Sts.We ran that alley. We would charged other kids a dime to be able to walk thru it. We swam in the canal, went to Shanneys' candy store, Ives pond for ice skating, Pine woods park.... Ahhhhhhhhhh memories!!!!
