Note the Rivera Theatre, as originally named. It was subsequently renamed the Riviera Theatre, the name it bears today. Also visible on the left is the building which housed Kent Music Hall. Alexander G. Kent was a Trustee of Ascension Church and made the Music Hall available for the first Masses held by the first pastor of Ascension parish. Visit our historic DowNTown shopping district today and visualize this picture--much remains, although altered in appearance. |

Looking over lumber piled on the docks of Tonawanda Island toward North Tonawanda, the Crystal Beach boat visible. The breeze from the Niagara River served as a natural kiln, drying and curing the lumber without a need for an artificial method. This breeze played a significant role in making the Twin Cities the Lumber Capital of the World in the late 19th century. |

This parish is the second oldest Roman Catholic parish in North Tonawanda and plays an active role in the life of many of the city's Polish-American families. Fondly called OLC to most locals, the Church will be part of the North Tonawanda History Museum's Historic Treasures Tour on July 31, 2005, and will also be open to the public during Doors Open Niagara 2005, on October 15 & 16, with parishioners proudly showing off their beautiful church building. |
