During World War II there was a small but highly productive shipyard in North Tonawanda that produced LCT (Landing Craft Tank) vessels. This operation, the Bison Shipyard, was only in business for a few years but compiled a remarkable record for turning out these boats for use by our armed forces in the amphibious invasions that were made during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnamese War. Only one of thirteen shipyards that made these boats during WWII, they builtl lmore than a quarter of all of the LCTs produced in the US at the time. From the original book by Allen C.
