Irish Heritage Night - March 17, 2005

Charter Museum member and volunteer Jason Law, standing in the center, prepares to record the evenings program. Jason, a D'Youville College history major, has created the format for the Museum's oral history program, as part of two internships and additional volunteer service to the Museum. Museum Trustee Judith Mittiga stands behind Jason. The evenings program included "Old Irish History: How the Irish Saved Civilization" presented by Daniel Killian, retired Library Director of the North Tonawanda Public Library. Refreshments for the evening were Irish Soda Bread prepared by Barb's Sweet Treats using the recipe in the Museum's "North Tonawanda Ethnic Heritage Cookbook" and currant scones prepared by Penny Creasey of Hodgepodge Gift Shop and Cafe.

The Woodgate-Lachut School of Irish Dance presented an educational and entertaining program.

The dancers make their own costumes, with each one costing around $800. The performers shared the history of the costumes and their components as well.

The evening's speaker, Dan Killian; Museum Trustee Betty Brandon, Charter Museum member and volunteer Steve Ash, and Museum Director Donna Zellner Neal joined the dancers as part of the program--to view this part of the program, visit the Museum to review the video recording of the evening's program.

It was a Happy St. Patrick's Day for all in attendance.
