John Spillman Liquor Store

80 Webster Street

80 Webster Street once housed J. Schulmeister's drygoods & notions store, a precursor to the department stores. In later years, it housed the Schwartz menswear store.

50-60 Webster Street was the location of John Spillman's liquor store. Shown is a stoneware jug purchased by a Museum member for the Museum collection through E-bay. Spillman, whose name is spent both with one "l" and two "l's" in records of the time, lived at 312 Sweeney Street. He drowned in the Canal in 1905. He was a member of the carousel manufacturing Spillman family.
