This 1936 photo looks west on Tremont Street to Webster. In the Schnell Building on the corner, an Atlantic & Pacific (A&P) store was in business. The buiding was constructed in 1890 by George E. Schnell. In the early 1900's a theatre operated in this building. For decades it housed Schnell's mens and boys wear, which began on South Niagara Street in Tonawanda. In later years, it housed a television store. In 2005, it houses an antique business. In 1927, the building(s) from 34-38 were known as the Fowler Block. |
