Pickard's Furniture Store

Pickard's Furniture Store at Oliver and Schenck Streets had a February sale in 1930.  Here a crowd waits for the store to open.  Special attention should be given to the unique lights on the front of the second floor of the building.  Also, there is a hitching post at the lower left next to the utility pole.  Originally Paschen's Drygoods Store, the store later was known as Abel's Furniture Store.  The second floor was removed and the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, known commonly as the A&P, occupied the first floor as the forerunner of a supermarket for many years.  Later it housed a Salvation Army Thrift Store, Martin's Book Store, and Lee's Krean and Chinese Restaurant, and the Rainbow Rental Company.
