School Companions Meet in Tennessee, Attend Navy School

Two North Tonawanda sailors, who were companions during school days in the North Side, have been reunited in the Navy.

John Paczos (left, error in caption... to view more on John, please visit our Ascension Industries section here), 111 Sixth Ave., and Richard Rhodes (right, error in caption), 221 Wheatfield St., are stationed in Memphis, Tenn., where Sailor Paczos is attending Aviation Structural Mechanics School and Sailor Rhodes is attending Aviation Electronics School.

Both are graduates of North Tonawanda High School where they were members of the swimming team from 1948 to 1950. They were graduated together from Buffalo State Technical Institute where Sailor Paczos was president of Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity and Sailor Rhodes, vice president.

The boys joined the Naval Reserve together in 1951 and left for active duty last Dec. 2. They were separated briefly when Sailor Paczos went to Airman’s School in Norman, Okla., and Sailor Rhodes was sent to Atlantic City N.J., for duty with Squadron UC-33.

A 1946 graduate of OLC School, John is also a 1950 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and grew up on 6th Avenue.
