Am-Pol Eagle - Citizens of the Year for 2003
EDITORIALS
CITIZENS OF THE YEAR
March 11, 2004 Edition This issue of the Am-Pol Eagle includes our selections for Citizens of the Year for 2003. The individuals and organizations being honored represent a diverse cross section of our community yet share a common trait. They have all played a significant role in the strengthening of our Polish-American community over the past year.
Those being honored have made a difference in the lives of our citizens through their dedication and commitment to their profession or through the volunteer efforts on behalf of community causes. What impresses us most about our honorees is that they have toiled in anonymity, seeking no recognition for themselves even though they are most deserving of it.
This annual tribute to the men, women and organizations who work for Polonia has become a greatly anticipated event within our Polish-American community. Some nominees even had campaigns waged on the behalf by members of our community familiar with their efforts. Yet, those selected were not chosen on the basis of popularity, but rather for their deeds and contributions. We are proud of the men and women we are honoring and hope the choices meet with the approval of our readers.
We wish to stress that it is our readers who identify our Citizen of the Year selections. All of those chosen were nominated not by our editorial staff, but rather by our loyal readers. It is a selection process that we believe has added prestige to this honor.
Our purpose in honoring members of our community for what they have done is not only to recognize outstanding contributions, but also to encourage others to become involved in worthwhile community causes. We eagerly congratulate our recipients and thank them for
their efforts.
Museum note: One such recipient of the Citizen of the Year award is North Tonawanda's own State Senator George Maziarz. |
